A commodity can be described as anything which is imported or exported for our own use.
Fumigation is effective in targeting Stored Product Insects (SPIs) such as beetles, weevils, mites and moths which can infest grain and bulk commodities such as cocoa, rice, nuts, tobacco and animal feed, along with other raw materials used within food and feed manufacture.

Rentokil’s Phosphine fumigation treatment is a simple, cost effective method of eliminating insect pests in bulk commodities and can be used as a curative pest control solution.
Fumigation is effective in targeting Stored Product Insects (SPIs) such as beetles, weevils, mites and moths. SPIs can infest grain and bulk commodities such as cocoa, rice, nuts, tobacco and animal feed, along with other raw materials used within food and feed manufacture.
The fumigant, Methyl Bromide is being phased out globally as it has a deleterious effect on the ozone layer and as a responsible fumigation service provider we are introducing Profume as a registered alternative in our Kwa Zulu Natal Region for some services.
A specialist fumigation treatment, ProFume is a gas treatment. The active ingredient - Sulfuryl Fluoride - is effective in eliminating target pests like Stored Product Insects (SPIs) and wood-boring insect infestations.
This gaseous pesticide is ideal in the fight against pest insects such as beetles, weevils, mites and moths, and other SPIs infesting process machinery. Effective in buildings such as food processing facilities, cereal grain mills, grain stores, food or feed storage warehouses, ProFume works exceptionally well against infestations within the fabric or structure of buildings.
The Methyl Bromide fumigant will still be used for ISPM 15 and QIS as and when required and until it has been phased out globally.
The ProFume (Sulfuryl Fluoride) alternative can be offered for some services in our Kwa Zulu Natal Region, with availability in other Regions in the near future.
Silo fumigation is a cost-effective method of treating a large volume of product in one hit - at relatively low cost.
Grains, animal feed, and cereals are the most common commodity fumigated in a silo. The quality of stored commodities will not be affected by a fumigation treatment and will be free from insect specimens or fragments.
Most silo fumigations are done to save time and money due to the fact that large amounts of product can be treated in one hit for a relatively low cost compared to container fumigation.
The quality of stored commodities will not be affected or downgraded. Using silo fumigation means that your final product will not be affected with insect specimens or fragments.
The silo must meet similar protocols as the pressure decay fumigation for the product to be suitable for treatment within it.
A pressure test on a silo does not have to be done every time the silo is used for treatment, but it is recommended that it is inspected every time before use and pressure tested every 6 months or when modifications have been made to ensure efficacy of the fumigation service.

Phosphine is an accepted treatment for most bulk food produce including cereal, grains, dried fruit, nut, rice, cocoa and coffee beans. It eliminates all life cycle stages of the target insect pest, with all the advantages of being non-tainting and leaving no pesticide residue.
Sufficient time must be allowed for the fumigant to work effectively. The time 'under gas' is referred to as 'exposure period'. When Phosphine is used at ambient South African temperatures, best results are usually achieved in 8 days, and usually slightly longer in the winter season.
We do not offer Fumigation in transit. This service is deemed illegal, and is discouraged by SAPCA.
